NORBERT PEETERS

BOTANICAL PHILOSOPHER

 

Norbert Peeters is a botanical philosopher, writer, and university lecturer in Philosophy at Wageningen University & Research. In the past, he studied archaeology and philosophy at Leiden University. As a botanical philosopher, he primarily writes and speaks on the interplay between botany and philosophy. He is also completing his doctoral research on the history of invasive plant species. In 2016, he debuted with Botanische revolutie: de plantenleer van Charles Darwin. Subsequently, he wrote, among other works, Rumphius’ Kruidboek: verhalen uit de Ambonese flora (2020) and Wildernis-vernis: Een filosoof in het Vondelpark (2021). Recently, he co-edited the facsimile Flora Batava: de wilde planten van Nederland (2023).
